AGE 65 and BIRTHDAYS GONE BY

by SHARYN ANDERSON

TOMORROW IS THE BIG ONE! 65TH BIRTHDAY! WOW WHAT A MILE STONE!

WHEN MY CHILDREN WERE MARRIED AND STARTING FAMILIES OF THEIR OWN, WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME OF LIFE FOR ME! I VERY MUCH ENJOYED EACH AND EVERY ONE OF MY GRANDCHILDREN, I HAVE 4~~~ 2 OF EACH, FROM AGE 16, 14, 13, 9.

I HAD MANY HAPPY TIMES WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN, AND RECEIVED MANY BIRTHDAY CARDS OVER THE YEARS EXPRESSING THEIR LOVE FOR ME, HOWEVER IT WAS THEIR PARENTS WHO WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THOSE CARDS FOR ME FROM THEM!

I HAVE NEVER MISSED 1 OF THEIR BIRTHDAYS OR A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR THEM. EASTER CARDS TOO, ALWAYS IN THE MAIL ON TIME FOR THEM TO KNOW I WAS THINKING OF THEM.

TODAY I AM SAD BECAUSE I KNOW THAT TOMORROW WHEN I GO TO CHECK THE MAIL, THERE WILL BE NO CARDS, JUST LIKE THE LAST 5 YEARS. NO PHONE CALLS, NO FLOWERS, NO NOTHING, & THIS MAKES ME VERY SAD!

WHY DON'T THE PARENTS OF THESE CHILDREN ENCOURAGE MY GRANDCHILDREN TO MAKE THIS BIRTHDAY MORE SPECIAL, IT IS NOT JUST ANY BIRTHDAY IT IS MY 65TH. WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH LONGER I HAVE ON THIS PLANET!

SURE I HAVE OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS & A FEW CLOSE FRIENDS HOWEVER IT IS THE GRANDCHILDREN I ESPECIALLY WANT TO HEAR FROM OR I REALLY DO HOPE THEY COME TO VISIT TODAY, IT IS SUNDAY, AND THEY COULD MAKE THE EFFORT JUST SO I CAN SPEND SOME TIME WITH THEM. THE GIRLS LIVE ONLY A 10 MIN. WALK FROM MY APT. BOYS LIVE ONLY A 1/2 HOURS DRIVE...

WE SHALL SEE. MY PHONE IS WITH ME EVERYWHERE I GO, BUT TODAY IM NOT GOING FAR IN CASE THEY SURPRISE ME & COME TO SEE ME!!

Happy Birthday To You...
by: I am BEV

I know I'm not your grandkids, but I wish you Happy Birthday just the same. The new generation is into social media connections, and if you aren't in tune with that, well...it's just too bad from their perspective! This is NOT right but is a reality that I wish was not so prevelant. Keep your communication with your grandkids, however that
looks, and don't give up on them!

May the Lord bless and keep all of you!

Happy Birthday, I hope you enjoyed your day apart from what you truly desire, I can relate to how you feel, in 13 and 10 years I have never had a card from my grand daughters but I still plod on and love them and share their up's and downs. Family life, oh to have it, best wishes to you ;D

No self pity, please.

When my family fail to live up to my expectations I think back to when I was their age. Did I do what I now expect them to do? Was I as considerate of others as I expect them to be? Isn't it true that I have learned through the years that the little acts of kindness are what help to make living a pleasure?

We cannot expect the younger generation to act as we would have them act, but that is no excuse for self pity. Take pleasure as you find it. Don't go looking for it where it does not exist.

Birthdays gone.

Happy Birthday, belated. What you are mentioning is happening every place. We simply live in a to busy society.

Parents themselves do not spend enough time with their kids. Suggestion, have parents and the whole family designate 1 day a year, for a get together.

My sister with 12 grandchildren does this very nicely every Thanksgiving. The children all contribute in some way and are proud of the dishes and treats that are invented.

This is working very well, and everybody is looking forward to this special day.

Grand Kids
by: Joe W.

Sharyn, Congratulations on celebrating your 65th birthday. You are now officially a senior citizen in Canada. When I'm traveling on the City transit system I often hear the words 'Grandma' or 'Great Grandma'. Even today in my travels I heard the same words.

I know that Grand kids today have many outside interests and hobbies including working on more school homework projects. One possible way of getting their attention is try to e-mail them from time to time.

I don't know if they have their own computers, iPads or if they use the local Library computers, but I notice a lot of kids in this age group are carrying cell phones and texting is also a possibility.

Wendy Great Idea, Joe... as sad as it is, that IS the way they communicate!!

BIRTHDAY

Dear Sharyn,

It was very distressing to read .
The best remedy is, not to expect and go about with your program. If you have good friends, invite a few.

Times have changed. Sentiments are rare. I live in Canada also. Had to come due my country due to political upheavals. Had to face many hardships and heart breaks but managed to survive, by the grace of GOD

Wishing you all the HAPINESS,
SUZIE
