Contact Social Security

Social Security by phone

If you need to contact Social Security, 1-800-772-1213 is the nationwide number.

This is an automated line with recorded information, however, you can also speak to a representative between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on week days. If those times are inconvenient for you, a recording is available and you may find the answer to your question without speaking to anyone. You can no longer call your local office for an appointment. They changed it years ago, but it's not a problem... really!

When to call Social Security

The best time to call Social Security is NOT Monday, when most folks call. It's best to limit your phone calls or visits to other days... you'll make the connection much happier for yourself!

If you have hearing problems, Social Security also has a TTY number, 1-800-325-0778, which is available from 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on week days.
