Frozen pension

Pension plan with old employer. Hospital was leased in April of this year and I retired as of June 1 of this year. Still haven't received my pension and they tell me that the pension plan is frozen. Can they do this and for how long? Do I have any recourse?

Wendy: Without details, its almost impossible to answer questions like this. Do you mean a new organization is now running the hospital you worked at? Who told you the pension is frozen (the old company or the new company)? What was the name of your pension plan?

I am wondering if it was placed under PGBC - Pension Guaranty Benefit Corp, something that happens to many pension plans when the employer ends a company. You can search there to see if it is being held there. If not, need more details.
