Grandfather, the rural letter carrier

by pat badessa

Growing up in the 50s and 60s, down South. I lived on a farm out in the country and was brought up by my Grandparents.

My Grandfather was a rural letter carrier (for
those who don't know what that is - he delivered mail to people who lived WAY out in the country down dirt roads).

My Grandmother would send me to school and have my Grandfather drive me to the school (little did she know that I was helping him until we got home at noon for dinner).

Oh she would get so mad but I would go back with him on the route and finish the work day.
Only thing was I have always had short arms and I couldn't reach the mail boxes so had to sit on my knees.
