Living Cheap in Retirement
Living Cheap in Retirement IS possible! Despite what you may have heard, it is possible to live cheaply in retirement. But how? Surely, living without the financial benefits of a full time job is extremely difficult, right? Well, as it turns out, you might be wrong. Thankfully, there are a variety of options available for today’s retirees who wish to live frugally, and well. One way to enjoy your retirement is to enter into an RV lifestyle. RVers love to make friends, travel, explore the wilderness, cook, and enjoy life! Perhaps the best part about RVing is the inexpensive lifestyle it offers to those who partake in its enjoyment. Buying an RV is a great investment because of one free asset it offers – scenery that you cannot put a price tag on! Another way to live cheaply in retirement is to retire to a Southeast Asian country, or to a country in Latin or Central America. For one thing, the value of an American dollar is worth exponentially more than it is in the States. One choice for many Americans is Panama. Panama is a democracy, it has no military, and American tourists are treated kindly and with respect. For someone who wishes to live in a fun, tropical climate (on a budget), Panama is the perfect place. In addition to these alternate, frugal lifestyles, there are also some things you can do in your current location to live without spending much money. While installing energy efficient devices may be more expensive at first, in the long term they will reduce your expenses greatly. Look in magazines and newspapers for coupons to use on food and appliances can also be quite useful. Buying in bulk from stores like Costco and Walmart can also help ensure you get the most “bang for your buck.” Finally, use caution when buying gas for your vehicle. Only buy from the cheapest stations, and when you need it. If you follow these tips, you can live a fun lifestyle, at a low cost, after you’ve retired!
