Wendy's Two Cents on SBI...

My name is Wendy and I'm an SBI! Addict... there, I've said it.. grin!

I get oodles of feedback from my "Retire to the Internet" page and since I'm responding to many emailed questions, I thought I'd attempt one page on my own SBI websites. It means a lot to me that I have been able to give some of you the courage to finally do something you've been dreaming of for a long time...

Got knowledge you'd like to share with the world? on your hobby (flea market finds, oil painting, crochet patterns, or making bird feeders), on your previous occupation (selling washing machines, as a carpenter, or an legal secretary who knows what it takes to be good in that profession), or on an area in your life that you want to share to help others (living with MS, caring for an aged parent, or making baby food from scratch).

My occupation for 34 years is simply working in an office -- both as a clerk and manager. I love pushing paper, helping people on a daily basis, and working with a variety of computer programs that make my life simpler!

I just learned making digital art with Photoshop Elements software. It was a very humbling experience trying to learn this software.
When I found a website that seemed helpful (many, many of them, over and over), the writers *assumed* I knew the product to start with... so they talked over my head. I learned nothing and was extremely frustrated.
When I purchased an ebook/product out there, thinking I would learn what I wanted to know (and I'm careful! I read the small print as I know about the scams out there)... the money was completely wasted as it did not deliver what it said it would. That is, until I found one exception that totally delivered the true CONTENT (just like SBI tells us to deliver) that I needed to learn! Thank You "Secrets of the Designers" for your e-book help!
To me, it's kinda like a secret society of digital art designers who are possibly threatened that another person might want to learn and enjoy doing the same type of art work.... that is really how I felt. Forums weren't helpful like I'd expect and I just found the whole experience very odd.
Thank GOODNESS that SBI isn't like that.. it's a sharing and caring community of like-minded individuals who actually WANT to help me and want to see others succeed on the web -- and guess what? I honestly want to give back to them too.. to repay the many kindnesses I've experienced!

Now, choosing your best site concept is not always as easy as you might think. SBI has tools called Brainstorm It! and Niche Choose It! and they lead you down the best path -- they also might reveal some ideas/niches you didn't think of before, to help you make the right choice. I picked both of my topics, which really isn't the way to go about this... I should have used SBI's help more, but I had reasons I was passionate about both topics, so I listened to Nike and told myself -- JUST DO IT!

Making and formatting the web pages is simple... you don't need to know coding (though you'll likely learn a few codes like bolding along the way). The block-by-block builder trains you how to write a page and is perfect for beginners. I still use it today. Many "advanced" users should start with this tool as it's an excellent way to break bad habits! Grin! If you want a headline, you choose HEADLINE and type it in... next you want the body of the article, you hit TEXT and cut and paste it in.. it really is this simple and all the coding is done for you behind the scenes.

When it's time to create your site's Look, SBI! has easy-to-use templates. You can create a professional site, even if you have no design skills. I like to keep it simple... people are looking for answers, not just another pretty website. This page shows a range of styles and theres loads more!

Finally, you can build the most beautiful, informative, website out there, but if folks can't find you -- it's useless.. right? SBI automatically submits your web pages to the big search engines and it even allows you to analyze them before submitted, so you can correct any errors to assure yourself they will rank high!

There are reports so you can see what pages rank best, which were visited the most, and where they came from. After you start to rank, and have at least 30 pages out there, you'll start to look at options like Google Adsense ads, so that your website earns money for you (but this isn't the goal.. its to provide awesome information so you rank high.. the rest comes with your visitor traffic). You'll learn lots more on this concept when you read the SBI! manual so I'll leave this alone.
