Paying taxes on a state retirement from MI
because now living in IN...

by Kathy
(Indiana)

MI retirement office didn't know who I should contact in IN to find out how much I have to pay and where to pay this amount. Could you help me? Thanks.

Wendy's reply: Here is the Indiana State Current Year Tax Forms Website.. the tax forms and books are all there. Are you sure you do pay taxes on your pension? I'm not familiar with Indianna, but in Michigan, we don't pay State taxes on State, County, and municipal taxes... just something to check into!

We were living in IN, had a house fire, and now live back in MI so I don't have to pay state taxes anymore!! Yeah.

My husband is retired from Ford Motor Co and we do not pay any MI taxes on retirement income.

Retired in IN but receiving a MI state retirement
by: Kathy

Because my state retirement comes from MI, but I no longer live there, but in IN, I have to pay state taxes on my retirement... (or so they tell me).

Wendy's Two cents: I don't know IN income taxes, but I do know a Michigan retiree moved to Arizona and did pay Arizona state taxes on the MI pension... so I think you probably have to pay if IN taxes public pensions.

Luckily, Michigan doesn't tax public pensions... but other states do tax public pensions.
