Retired and Not yet Working...
well kinda!

by Bill
(USA)

Currently I have resigned from my earlier job and and am trying for a new one. I have applied for many posts, thanks to the global economy it is taking more than normal to get a job despite having good track record, performance back ground and credentials.

Therefore I was trying to do part time for the fun of it m-turk and trying to get a hang of it. I am not having the same occupation naturally. It is a totally new path for me.

I am neither happy nor regret this time gap before I get a new job. There are few reasons for being neutral.

Firstly after about a week I felt I have all the time in the world for my dear ones - my family, my friends, my hobby etc. I was neglecting these during my 25 years of working years...

One needs to invest his time in his career to advance, there will be few sacrifices one has to be ready, this however gives you a different rewards, promotions, raises which will help your family to live a better life.

Now I am not happy either as I have all the time in the world to pursue. I am now playing the flute regularly, those forgotten lessons which I learnt during my starting of the career as responsibility was not that high and you had time to learn music (I was also a bachelor).

I have time to take my son to the intercollege chess tournament, I also took him for the Quiz competition. I could enjoy the spark in his eyes, I also strongly felt he is now highly motivated, is performing much better than he used to.

I have time to hold little hands of my daughter and take her to her badminton class, play carom with her, watch her prepare a dance competition, see her generosity and young age of donating and collecting monetary help from friends and relatives and donate it to a deaf & dumb school.

Take my wife to many movies, save on the cost also as you can afford to go on week days rather than week ends.

Go sit in a coffee shop and no need to hurry there is plenty of time in the world.

My current work is from home, I am back studying the different organizations, their profits, their ability to return to share holders, how their shares have performed in the past, how the current macro and micro economic scenarios going to effect their profits in the next quarter and the next years ?

Therefore chose a right companies to invest, study their share price movements invest when the price appears right.

I have become active in share market and investing in mutual funds after nearly 16 years.

My current working also is like M-turk enjoying the work, spending few hours at leisure, surely this is not for money, but the thrill you get when you accomplish the work successfully, small dimes and cents getting added to your account slowly. I do not agree these jobs are no-brainy at all. This needs thinking and analyzing to answer.

I now do not work because I need money but I get the enjoyment and satisfaction.

Hey Bill,

What a busy lifestyle for a retiree! I am like you, retired but not quite. I'm a writer and I am
paid for some of my articles. Others I write as
an advocate of a cause I care about and as a way
to get my family's life adventures published.

One subject I'm interested in is longevity
and I have found that people in our country and other nations live longer if they have a sense of
purpose, something to get up for every morning.

You are certainly living a purposeful life and I
admire you for that. Keep up the good work.
