Retired and Volunteers at the Library

by Audrey
(San Francisco)

I volunteer once a week at the Donation Center of the San Francisco Public Library. This started two weeks after I retired.

The location is a 2 story warehouse. The volunteers sort from 5000 to 10,000 donated books per week. Many are from publishers who donate 25 copies of the same 9 year old hard bound book with coffee table/gift cover.

Each week I see DiVinci Code, Harry Potter and a Holy Bible. The donated books are sold at quarterly sales and at 2 locations. I also type mailing labels for online sales.

Volunteer at the library
by: Elinor

Good for you, Audrey. What a wonderful way to help the library.

Interesting tasks for you too. Our library has spring and fall book sales, thanks to volunteers. You say you type mailing labels for online sales. Please let me know the website to go to.

I want to order educational books to be sent to a family of 5 home-schooled kids. They are my great grands and I have sent them many workbooks, from alphabet and numbers to history and science.

Thank you, Elinor in Oregon
(the family is in Maine).
