Retirement Depression:
About Your Retirement

by Ali
(Philadelphia PA)

Hi Everyone,

I'm a first year grad student in a research and writing class at LaSalle University in Philadelphia PA.

I am writing about anxiety and retirement! and was so happy when I found this site. I have been having a hard time trying to find real stories about people who are dealing with this issue and people who have actually written journals on the subject of retirement and anxiety.

If you have any suggestions or resources for me to help me make a case for what people are doing to reduce their anxiety as they make the transition into retirement, I would be so grateful.

Thanks Ali

Wendy's Two Cents: Ali, I would love to publish your findings here, later, if you care to share them! I hope you get lots of replies!

MA, body of work; retirement and role
by: Beth, UK

Hello. I have been reading through many of your comments and noticed one from a fellow student. Thought i'd put my tuppence worth in too.

I am coming to the end of a masters in Dramatherapy and my final project is to develop a therapeutic intervention for people at retirement age using mask work to access 'true roles' and rediscover identity outside of the roles that have been prescribed by others.

I hope you don't mind my looking through your comments. They help me understand it all a bit better!!

Are you still doing your research?

Hi Ali, I'm recently retired as of 1/1/10... maybe we can make this journey together. I'm already feeling the effects! Writing is also my forte'.

Wendy's Two cents: Under "email friendships" on the left navigation bar, you'll find a Retirement Transition group. Just emails between friendly retirees (or soon-to-be retired) that are all going through the same retirement transition!
