Retirement Hobby: Painting and Tying Hand-Made Fishing Lures

I went fly fishing one day to a local lake to fly fish for crappies. I had 2 flies with me- both the same color. The first fly I broke the hook off and I had to replace it. The second fly unravelled on me but did I catch the crappies. I was able to catch my limit of 1# crappies on a completely unravelled fly.

I took those flies home and took the other fly apart to see how it was made. Today I will say that I have been tying my own flies and jigs for over 40 yrs.

If there is anyone that needs information on how to get started in fly tying, etc. contact me and I will be glad to help you out.

Fly Fishing NOvice
by: Gary A.

Just started fly fishing in Western NY.
Next step, probably in late fall/ winter is to learn to tie my own flys.
Any advice?
