Retirement Jobs: Attorney turned to Insurances
by John R.
(Florida)
After working as a trial attorney for over 21 years, I currently work full time after retiring from the practice of law.
When I retired, I had already put away sufficient funds to maintain my life style, and also, my spouse had now entered her prime earning potential when she earned her PhD.
When I retired, I was able to access my State pension as well as trigger an annuity which I had been building over the past 15 years, real estate investments and private financial savings.
I took a few years off, and now work with insurance products which are designed for the age 65 and over market with respect to supplemental health insurance and asset protection. I would have gone stir crazy if I was not able to get out of the house.
My legal background is of great assistance in understanding the various products better than the majority of my colleagues and it allows me to use my verbal skills when meeting with customers and explaining the product and choices they face. It is also an automatic relationship builder between me and my new customers.
I can honestly say the job is not intellectually challenging and it is a no brainer. The income generated is used to supplement the household income and I do need to get out of the house.
Fortunately, the new job in insurance gives me the flexibility I need to attend to on-going family matters, include the care of an elderly parent who resides within my household.
