Senior Pen Pal: Dave in NH

by Dave
(NH)

Hi - I am a newly retired 55 yo schoolteacher up in the North Country. My wife still lives in MA as she still works.

She watches one house along with her parents and I watch the other. Our son graduated high school and moved off to college.

Basically, I couldn't take Massachusetts anymore AND I ran out of names to call it.

I enjoy my time up on my little dirt road, living on land on a ledge; but money is tight (rather be low on funds than work anymore -- disgusted with being somebody's slave).

I worked at a job that I couldn't stand within the first week of being otj. However, family comes first so I made it through 20 years.

Schoolteaching is tough - especially when you are as conservative as I am. Just couldn't take the liberal mentality anymore - and even then I made it through a few more years.

I think the icing on the cake was the Obama cutout greeting people at the school entrance.

That did it for me.

I can fully understand how you felt. I was one of a very few Conservatives at my jr. high school also. In fact, in the 70's when NEA decided to start endorsing Presidential candidates, I and maybe 100 other delegates voted no out of 10,000 delegates because we knew a Republican candidate would never be endorsed.

When the State Legislature voted to permit MEA members to request their PAC money back, i started doing that. I told President of local MEA that if they wished to have contributions towards School Board candidates, I would contribute then, otherwise I supported my own candidates. Nice to see another Conservative teacher.

I was so glad to see that Scott Brown won in MA. let's hope now he sticks to conservative principles.

Howdy from New Mexico,

Many years ago I was reared in Gilford/Laconia area. Lake Winnipesaukee island home was a great place to grow up. You might enjoy some tales
based in that area at: http://home.comcast.net/~prowe31/stories.htm

Would welcome feedback ... favorable or not.
