Senior Volunteer at Philadelphia Film Festival

by Ruthie
(Philadelphia )

For the past two years, I have been a volunteer for the Philadelphia Film Festival.

Held for several weeks each March, the film festival is one of the largest on the east coast with more than 20,000 people in attendance over 2 weeks.

The first year I volunteered I 'worked' for 5 days as an usher at one of the venues. This year, I 'worked' as a box office person for 5 days.

Although both were enjoyable, I liked being an usher most because I got to see several great foreign films for free. Being a box office person, I was pretty confined to one space and only got to see one film for free.

When volunteering, most people don't consider something short term, like arts and film festivals, but it's a great way to meet new people of all ages, as well as see new artistic talent from around the world.
