Wise Penny Thrift Shop

by Geneva
(Buffalo, Minnesota)

I was looking for something to do and asked to volunteer at the local thrift shop.

I now work 1 day a week unpacking donations and pricing them. I often put them on the shelves too. I have met some wonderful people and found myself some great bargains along the way too.

I also taught a couple of classes to seniors. One was, "Living Well with a Chronic Condition."
Another one was on fall prevention but I can't recall the exact name.

I am the secretary of our local senior citizen group and I'm always looking for something new to do. I lead a weight loss support group (TOPS) on Thursday evenings and have done this for about 8 years.

The world is full of interesting people and interesting things to do. GO for it!!! Geneva

Something I like to do
by: Anonymous

Hello "Penny" - Some of the things I especially like to make are Greeting Cards. I like to put braille on my cards. We sell them at our himanatarian place. I made 500 last Christmas and they sold within 3 hours. So I am printing cards as I make them so I can have a lot for Christmas greetings. I also am making Birthday, Anniversary, Thank You's etc. They all have braille and some have braille plus the Sign Language alphabet on them. People like my cards because they can not buy cards with braille on them in the shops. From Diana in UTAH, USA

As a canny Scot, I adored this article by Geneva, I believe there exists a wee bit of the Caledonian in us all - long may it prevail.

Good for you Geneva:

Sounds to me like you are making good use of your retirement years and doing something for others in the process.

Glad to hear that you are staying active by participating in things you enjoy.

Stay well.

I Love It!

I love it when we seniors find interesting things to do and get out as much as we can!

My working part time in our rental office has opened up a world of opportunities for me. I also volunteer at community place that helps low income people. I once needed their services when I was raising grandchildren. I do not hesitate to come running when they need a spokes-person to bring in more donations, etc. or to speak about the way the program served us so well, helping me to put three grandchildren through school, etc.

Sounds like you are a "go for it" person!
Have fun and meet lots of people! Thats my motto!
