Advice: after-cancer back pain

Have been retired since 2014. Went through anti estrogen therapy for 6 years for breast cancer. Cancer free. I am lucky.

However past two years, the no estrogen in my body has left me with joint and terrible back pain. 77 and very active but the back pain can be debilitating.

Advil has become my friend but afraid of constant use. Anyone with advice to curb pain joint or back?

We can get advice from anyone but unless you have experienced this pain, you cannot imagine how disabling it can be.

Other than this life is great and loving retirement!

My joint pain relief
by: Vicki, CT

I too took letrozole for 10 years after breast cancer and experienced debilitating joint pain that never went away. Every joint in my body ached and I felt 30 years older.

On the advice of my surgeon, I removed dairy from my diet and ate mostly plant-based proteins in place of meat. I could walk up and down stairs normally within a week and my joints stopped aching. I couldn't believe it. I suggest that it's worth a try. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me. It gave me my life back.

back pain
by: Penny North Carolina

I have had back pain and hip pain for the last few years.

One thing that sometimes helps and is not dangerous is lidocaine patches. I also use Voltaran cream at times. I think they are both less harmful than taking pills.

A lot of the NSAIDS will cause stomach problems if taken too often or too long and they can also lead to kidney damage. My doctors have advised me not to take them due to my kidney dysfunction.

I hope this helps.
