Health & Energy (aging well)

How do I maintain my physical and mental capacity as I age?

Your body is changing and that's normal.

Aging isn’t just about health — it’s about energy, resilience, and adapting to a body that changes over time. We need to rethink what it means to age well. We also need to realize recovery times will be greater.

Our brain ages (cognitive) and our body ages (physical)... even our energy decreases.  Energy is so important to us now.

Food to increase energy will help maintain your core energy.

What affects your energy most?

Movement. OK, I don't personally do well here...but as I age, I need to begin, and like now!  Years ago, I did aerobics after work, dragged myself there. Hey, I had worked a full day.  Surprise surprise! I gained energy afterwards... and you will too!

Brain health: try brain games! Every little bit helps!

Sleep (or the lack of it), as small as it may sound in the scope of life, becomes incredibly important as we age. Energy, balance, recovery, and mood all depend on it.

If you're not getting enough rest, understanding sleep help can help you make better changes.

It also helps to understand how aging affects sleep patterns and why your sleep may feel different now.  There are also practical ways to sleep better in later years that can make a noticeable difference.

Staying active and capable

We know we need to be active, but it's far too easy to just sit and read, play with your phone, whatever. BUT we all know and need to acknowledge -- we are only harming our future self.

There are so many exercise apps for seniors -- just use your phone or tablet and search. I'm not talking about extreme fitness, just sustainable movement.

Try walking or any light activity.

Put movement using Reminders on your phone. Yeah, I know, ugg... but let it bother you for a bit, do some movement, something you can do daily, something you might enjoy, and let it become a normal part of your day!

Just think -- you want to live independently into the future. We don't want others to make decisions for us. Get Sustainable Movement into your life! (me too)

What to expect over time

How does this affect your daily life?

Living Day to Day will help you further.

As long as we’re living, we need to move physically AND use our brains. Aging asks us to adapt, slow down, and rethink what “strong” really means.

As Bette Davis famously said,

Getting old ain’t for sissies.

And honestly… she wasn’t wrong.
