Escape for the Winter (U.K. Readers)

by Mary F

Looks like a great opportunity for some retirees!

Are you dreaming of escaping the dreaded British Winter? With the awful Summer we’ve had so far, who could blame you?!

Every year thousands of Britons flee for sunnier climes to avoid the dark, dreary days that descend upon us and with a particularly harsh winter predicted to hit the UK this year, it’s no surprise that number is set to grow.

Now, a new BBC One Series; Escape for the Winter is helping people make their dream winter getaway a reality. They want to hear from people from the UK who are thinking about or are already planning their trip. The series will pair sun seekers up with a reputable property expert who will help them get to grips with the local area, as well as secure a property that fits their brief and budget.

Escape to Florida
by: Nina from London

This year I plan to visit Florida the sunshine state. It's been a few years but when I did go I loved it. The place is Coral Beach. What makes it even better is that my brother decided to buy a condo there. He has been asking me to visit quite often but I kept thinking of more exotic places.

However, the beach there is perfect, the company is great and I get to relax and enjoy listening to the seagulls and hearing the waves crash along the sand.

Couldn't be any happier!

Come to Venice, Florida for the winter
by: Mike B / Venice Florida

Come to southwest Florida for the winter! I was on the beach yesterday, and heard some British accents. One of my neighbors is from the UK and spends his winters here in Venice, Florida.

We enjoy a laid-back relaxed lifestyle with easy access to shopping, cultural activities, restaurants, golf, bicycling, walking, running, kayaking, boating, or just enjoying our very clean and uncrowded beaches with access to clean restrooms.

Venice is known for its large retiree population - many who are seasonal residents. The median age is 69 - and nearly 60% of the population is 65+. At 52, I am the youngest retiree in my neighborhood. Most of all -we have warm weather mid-70s to low 80s in winter - and abundant sunshine. I wear shorts and t-shirts all the time.

I vacationed here annually before moving here last year. And, as we say in Venice, "it's just another day in paradise."

Dreaded Winters in UK
by: Ken San Diego

I know I don't live in the UK... but the best place to go for warm weather is THAILAND! I have gone there 13 times...and I DON'T need the warm weather (I live in San Diego CA USA - Warm year round) but find Thailand very exotic... beautiful scenery, people, and very cheap! I even purchased a condo out there for turnaround retirement trips! Sawaddee Krup to the Land of Smiles!!!!
