Retired Nurse at 54

by April Rose
(USa)

I had been an RN for over 30 years. Then I was diagnosed with SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) at 48. Dragged myself to work until I finally thrown in the towel and opted to retire early at 54.

Working the hospital floors during covid and having lupus finally did it for me.

Actually for many of us retiring is such a big step and sometimes we just go into the motions of going to work even though our body is giving up until it finally just give up.

After years of working in a high stress work environment and finally taking the low and slow life is just priceless.

I no longer have to go to expensive vacations or go on shopping sprees to keep myself happy and motivated.

Just being in the moment, waking up in the morning, watching you tube videos and walking (in the mall, since I can’t be exposed to sunlight due to my condition) are actually priceless moments for me.
