Retirement Move from NJ to Florida

by Robert J.
(Pontre Vedra, Florida)

I moved to Florida from northern New Jersey.

I was attracted by the climate because I am a sport and outdoor fanatic. My son just left for college and my wife and I were looking for a condo for the winter in a nice, family orientated location.

Luckily, my brother had already relocated to Ponte Vedra Beach just outside Jacksonville.

Pontre Vedra is an upscale seaside community, and one of the wealthiest places in Florida. We bought a small condo for $120,000 and joined the local tennis and golf clubs.

If you are an active person, Ponte Vedra is the place for you. Ponte Vedra is the of the tennis ATP tour, along with golf’s prestigious players championship. The beaches are beautiful and the climate tops of the location. The humidity can sometimes get out of hand, but the temperature during the winter never becomes unbearable.

There are many restaurants in town that offer almost any type of global cuisine, although I prefer Italian.

Ponte Vedra is a few minute from the night life and culture of Jacksonville while still maintaining a family atmosphere.

St. Augustine, a historical site and beautiful town, is also within a half hour drive. One of my favorite parts about Ponte Vedra is the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club. At the Inn and Club, you can play tennis, golf, swim on the private beach, use the gym, or even charter a fishing boat just by charging it to your account. There are many nice and interesting people to meet there.

Overall Ponte Vedra offers all of the quaint aspects of a seaside community, while having some of the luxuries of a more heavily populated area.

These luxuries include country clubs, jewelry stores, car dealerships, professional offices, and private beaches.

The night life of Jacksonville Beach is within five minutes, just as more family friendly activities like the zoo.
