Thought for today!

I have been a blogger sharing our retirement escapades for quite a few years now.

Lately though I have merely been providing little quips to hopefully elicit a smile or two from my followers.

Believe it or not there are sometimes when I share something that happened during our retirement years (been retired now since 1996) that may cause you to smile and think to yourself - " Hey, I can relate to that!"

Trying my darndest to get back in the writing habit cause believe it or not, writing on this site is therapeutic (leastways for me) and takes me away from the reality of what is going on in the world today. That and reading which I have also started up again. Oops, thought of something else that is fun in retirement and that is solving puzzles, be it Sudoku, Word Search, or Crossword of one means or another.

Plus, we try our best to keep moving every day versus becoming couch potatoes.

Okay, I've bent your ears long enough so let me end this post with something you can ponder over until next time we meet.

Do stars clean themselves with meteor showers?

After eating, do amphibians have to wait one hour before getting out of the water?

In a country of free speech, why are there phone bills?

Ok, one more and then I'll let you get on with whatever you were doing before you stopped to read my dribble.

When it rains, why don't sheep shrink?

Y'all have a good day now, ya hear.

Age reflections
by: Ricardo

Irwin and his post got me stimulated a bit to ALSO post some thoughts on my present state. Unlike Irwin who is an old pro at retirement, I have been retired for about ten years now.

Prior to hanging it up, I thought about how I would spend my idle hours. What oh what would I do to occupy an eight-hour day?

I came to the conclusion that it must be productive, at least PART of that eight hour day! Part of it should also be what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it.

I must have a purpose every day or otherwise, what is the point, just take up space, no way!

We moved to a restricted age facility shortly after retirement with many things to occupy my time, IF I chose to be involved, THAT made it easier. I had a blank canvas, I had to fill it in, no one ELSE but ME, use it or lose it, BODY&MIND!

I went to the lodge that first time to use the workout facilities. While in the locker room a wise old resident approached and introduced himself to me. He said "ya gotta treat this exercise business as a job, be here everyday and your body & mind will reward you with longevity and fitness, also remember you ARE what you eat."

I have tried to adhere to the old timers advice. So far it has worked for me and I share it with all that pass my path.

I stay physically active and SELDOM miss a day working out, it affords me both physical and mental dexterity since as I work out I am socializing with a great group of men and women who have become friends, we are ALL on the same page with what we cherish with the time we have left, for without the gifts of time & health, what has ANYONE have?

Take care of body & soul and they will take care of you.

Life is precious do NOT waste it, it can END in the blink of an eye!

Love you Irwin!
