What’s going on ?

by Troy
(New Jersey )

Hi Wendy ,

I’m a newly retired firefighter 58 years young.

I haven’t been to work since december 2023, I find myself sleeping late, not wanting to get out of the bed, watching tv most of the day, eating all the wrong foods.

I just don’t feel like doing anything. I planned to get back in shape when I retired and hit the gym as well as focus on building my business.

But I have zero motivation to do anything.
I’m usually disciplined optimistic and motivated but for some reason I feel deflated.

I have know idea of what’s going on with me .

Any thoughts or advise would be highly appreciated.

Thank you
Troy

Hey Troy!

You worked for many years -- keeping up with employer jobs and life was mostly work-work-work.

Right?

Give yourself some grace, just a bit of time to choose your next path in life.

You won't stay like this, it's simply part of the transformation from worker to retired. That is, unless you are depressed. If you might be, see your doctor. Nobody likes meds, but sometimes they are necessary to help you move forward.

I am going through the same thing as you (death of my mother who I cared for)... and know I need time to move forward again. If you'd like to chat, send me an email under Contact Wendy!

troy-i have found this phase of life very challenging -because now you have to create your day from scratch --we have had majority of life running on automatic transmission most everything planned ---now you have to shift your own gears --but you have to do them yourself (no trainee) --too many things to wonder and read about a miracle that started billions of years ago to get bored and listless

Wendy: Thanks Matt!
