Yoga for Seniors

by Corinne
(Yellow Springs, OH)

Our senior center in the little town of Yellow Springs, OH, offers adapted yoga by a qualified teacher two times a week, and it is really helpful for movement and balance issues, and for calming and being well in your physical body. And it's free at our center.

Find out if you have a senior center, yoga studio, or community center near you that offers yoga.

Wendy: Thanks Corrine, great idea!

Yoga at Age 92

by Wendy
(www.retirement-online.com)

Can you imagine someone doing Yoga at age 92?

Well, I just viewed this video and had to post it here for all to see! This gal is amazing!

Bernice Bates lives in Pinellas Park, Fl and teaches yoga - helping other seniors to stretch their bodies to keep happy and healthy.

She has no medical issues, at all... at age 92! Yikes!
Bernice has the flexibility of a woman less than half her age (that's age 46). I do wonder if *I* could do the poses she does, at age 57! Tut Tut, Wendy!!

Better Yet -- Bernice Bates is the world's oldest yoga teacher, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. (Dec. 22)

Yoga

by Jeanette
(Ontario, Canada)

Your post on yoga for seniors made me smile. I've been practising yoga for many years. Yoga has helped me to face many of the problems of aging.

When I had a hip replacement two years ago, I was able to go back to the yoga studio after 2 months of recovery. Although I still used a cane to help me walk, I was able to start some simple asanas.

Now aged 67, I attend yoga classes regularly to help me with flexibility, muscle strength and balance. As well as the physical benefits, yoga also helps with mindfulness and mental focus.

I would highly recommend it!
