Updated 2026. I've been busy caregiving for my mother and now updating this site so I can help retirees again! Write to me!

Emotional/Social Life

As retirees, we often have emotional and social life issues... at least most of us do! WHY on earth do we suddenly need emotional help?

We've been through our educational years, marriage, kids, worked a lifetime -- only to have issues?

I will say, every single retiree out there is different. Nothing I say applies to all -- that would make a very boring world, wouldn't it?

Anxiety & Depression

First, many of us do need help! We need to rethink life itself!

Our world collapses when we retire. Our coworkers are suddenly almost strangers (the work chit-chat is gone). Family is busy, still working. We've lost our work identity, so now what?

Anxiety/Depression raises its ugly head.

If this is YOU -- click the link. You'll find so many retiree stories  from readers who've been through this before you, and so many provide feedback to those posts.

Death and Divorce

Let's consider Planning for Death -- of your partner, sibling, or parents!  It's not easy!

I just lost my mother at age 97, and she had a long life, and it blew me away emotionally. How do you survive the death of a spouse/partner?

Worse yet, maybe you never planned for death. Especially with the Death of a Spouse, you know it's inevitable, death happens to all of us, but who wants to prepare for death, who wants to talk about death?

Then -- who would ever THINK that Silver Divorces are possible? They happen every day... whether the couple has spent a few years or decades together.  Divorce, at this time of life, is unexpected and unplanned, but needs to be considered.

Family, Friends, Senior Pen Pals

Senior relationships are very important. At a conference two years ago, several speakers mentioned loneliness and the consequences of being alone. When you don't communicate much, you lose your words, lose your thoughts (yes, this happens to all of us somewhat) -- but oddly enough, little by little, it can lead to dementia! Yikes!

By the way, this comes from Introvert Wendy here... I can sit with my iPad and waste the days away, easy peasy. BUT we do really need to get out of our comfort zones, and chat with others, even Senior Pen Pals online. Every little bit helps!
