This book is not about retirement. It IS about serenity and peace in life and quieting that negative self-talk, that voice in your head. Many retirees could really find a more content, peaceful retirement if they knew how... thus my review here.
My copy of this book is well used. I highlighted the important parts (important to ME). I also studied it with millions of other folks from around the planet using an Oprah webinar, chapter by chapter, with the author.
Folks worldwide tuned in to ask questions on the books concepts... to find their own peace in life. It was a huge online workshop in 2008 and the author will explain parts you didn't quite get.Now, why do I think this is a great book for Retirees?
Chapter Three of A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose
says: "Most people are so completely identified with the voice in the head - the incessant stream of involuntary and compulsive thinking and the emotions that accompany it - that we may describe them as being possessed by their mind. "
If you continually worry, complain about your retired lifestyle... this really can help you!OK, So now My Challenge for Retirees:If YOU are someone who thinks negative thoughts all day, if you are "complaining in the head" all day -- it has no real purpose. It's not meant to bring about change to your retired life. So why think those thoughts? (yes I know its not easy to turn them off).
If you worry all day, consider this. Eckert also says: "WORRY is continual mental noise... WORRY pretends to be necessary... But it has no useful purpose". Sooo true and just think of the hours so many of us spend lying in bed, unable to think, worrying... and yet that worry cannot change things.
On your daily walk, washing the dishes, doing some non-thinking chore... instead of letting those negative voices continue on, make NEW subconcious thoughts:
I am a healthy happy retiree.
I love my retirement and the freedom it provides me.
Retirement is great, wish everyone could have fun like me. I need new interests and the world is full of possibilities: my eyes are wide open.
IF you do this, day after day, the negative voices will go away and the new "retirement is great" thoughts will appear normally. You immediately look for something very different in life.
For a few dollars, I really truly think you can find peace and contentment in your own retirement, like I did!
