Retirement Hobby: Poetry and Song Lyric Writing

by Allen Paulson
( Illinois)

I was forced to retire in 2009 because of health reasons and basically watched tv, played poker, but then remembered I used to write song lyrics for many years so that is what I do as I enjoy the challenge of words and stories.

I have many on websites of others on the net.

I guess I really want to be a writer in my retirement years for pay or hobby preferably pay. :)

Wendy: Check out Fiverr.com... you only get paid $5 for each job, but write a clever birthday song, and sell it over and over, or personalize songs for $10 (request and they pay twice). It's really low pay but if you become popular, you could have a nice income coming in.

Do a search for other song writers and see what they offer. Bet there are some out there!!

Write personalized poems for all sorts of occasions.. ask for a few details of the persons life and write away!

Just an idea!!

Farewell
by: Janet

I retired from 32 years an educator in Public Schools. I retired in 2008. I wrote a poem at the time and would like to post it here on this site.

Farewell

Eastie High, that school upon the hill
Mornings sunny and bright
It will be there still
A forever glowing light

Eastie High has been like family
Fond memories I share
In front of the school, a beautiful tree
Whose leaves and branches grow strong and fair

The image of a late comrade and friend
Who unselfishly taught with care
Students of Eastie High, until her end
Though her spirit will still be there

With its colors blue and gold
Eastie High is a winning team
Stories waiting, yet to be told
Of students, who can reach their dreams

Eastie High, that school upon the hill
A marvelous journey, as I turn in the key once handed to me
It will be there still
Farewell, colleagues and friends, you have been like family.
