September 11 changed many lives. Whether you actually lost someone or not, the shift in attitude sticks with me. My husband calls it re-organizing one's priorities.
As we stop identifying ourselves as our work (nurse, accountant, attorney), retirement offers an opportunity to re-define ourselves as "volunteer who helps people in need", "humanitarian", "animal rescuer" etc. My new self definition is Disaster Red Cross Volunteer.
